Garden Pavilion

Client: Langorf Hotel, Frognal, Hampstead

A new garden pavilion sits in the private rear garden of a large Hampstead townhouse hotel. The Langorf Hotel is located in a leafy Conservation area, surrounded by residential buildings with a generously sized, underused garden. Instead of awkwardly extending the tall brick building, a new, lightweight enclosure to serve as the hotel's new Breakfasting Room sits independently in the garden. The privacy of the neighborhood and that of the hotel's guests are protected as the pavilion is completely introspective - affording only the views of the garden and the sky above with the glazed bridge connecting it to the townhouse. All glazing will be highly efficient with timber frames and triple glazing exceeding Building Regulations for thermal efficiency. The timber framing and cladding will be from sustainable sources. All solid construction will be well-insulated and exceed the current requirements, hence only needing the heating periodically.
