London Loft

Client: Two Doctors and Family
Engineer: Ingleatour

The needs of the family have changed considerably since London's building stock was built. As a culture we are working longer hours and demanding longer Holidays, we take these abroad, and, for adventure. Now we see our homes as refuge from the city. In London, even the more desirable housing stock of the last 200 years is impractically arranged. How do we tailor these buildings to suit the needs of modern professional couples and families? In California, they would call this a den, a grown up playroom in the once useless loft space of a very large and sprawling home in Hampstead Garden Suburb. It was for us an exercise in space planning and multi-functionalism. Good quality custom designed joinery and simple finishes to last a lifetime. A space from which to work if the city seems too far away, and in which to relax should the journey home have been too long.
